Highlight quotes of the first article-“A New Study of Splenda”
“Now, I am definitely not a fan of sugar, but if I had to choose between sugar and any artificial sweeter, I would choose sugar, hands down, without question. I strongly believe artificial sweeteners are even more dangerous to your health than an excess of sugar.”
“Splenda reduced the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50 percent, increased the pH level in the intestines, contributed to increases in body weight and affected P-glycoprotein (P-gp) levels in such a way that crucial health-related drugs could be rejected.”
This article dives deep into the harmful effects of Splenda and sheds light on the most recent research concerning it. The list of side effects are long, surprising and a frightening but they need to be known. Read the article to find out more.
Highlight Quote of the Article– “Beware of the Agave Nectar”
“While agave syrup does have a low-glycemic index, so does antifreeze — that doesn’t mean it’s good for you.
Most agave syrup has a higher fructose content than any commercial sweetener — ranging from 70 to 97 percent, depending on the brand, which is FAR HIGHER than high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which averages 55 percent.”
“This makes agave actually WORSE than HFCS.”
A surprising article that sheds light on what was once thought to be a healthy alternative but due to recent research on the actual processing, production of the Agave Nectar it has been found to be worse than HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup).
Highlight Quote of the Article- “MSG the Silent Killer”
MSG is an excitotoxin, which means it overexcites your cells to the point of damage or death, causing brain damage to varying degrees — and potentially even triggering or worsening learning disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease and more.
This article is a quick and helpful overview and guide to moving away from MSG in your diet. Very helpful a must read. It is not priority right now for the program but it needs to be read since the long-term side effects of this drug could be very harmful.
Highlight Quote of the article – “Aspartame: By Far the Most Dangerous Substance Added to Most Foods Today”
The story goes that Schlatter accidentally spilled one of the chemicals he was using onto his finger. He licked his finger clean, and in doing so discovered the sweet taste of the aspartame he had spilled. This inauspicious beginning heralded the birth of what has become one of the most potentially dangerous and controversial food additives in human history.
Okay this article is pretty intense and a little frightening but definitely a necessary contribution to your education. Aspartame and its brother alternatives “equal, splenda” and artificial sweeteners are in an obscene amount of regularly eaten processed foods wreaking havoc and danger whenever they enter people’s bodies. Read the article to get a little history lesson on one of the most dangerous food additives known to man.
Highlight Quote of this Article- “FDA Approved Two New Stevia Based Sweetners”
“Meanwhile, in the United States, natural Stevia has been the subject of searches and seizures, trade complaints, and embargoes on importation. Many believe that the FDA’s actions regarding Stevia have been, and still are, nothing more than a restraint to trade, designed to benefit the artificial sweetener industry.”
In this small article Mercola gives you insight into the FDA process and speculates their true intentions on the regulations surrounding the approval/disapproval of Stevia based sweeteners and Natural Stevia Products.
-Stevia a Natural Alternative to Sugar-
Stevia is the only natural alternative to sugar that we recommend at Puro Wellness Center and Spa. The only problem is that , as you will read in the article above not all Stevia products are created equal. Look for the Stevia products with the least ingredients, no added sweetnesrs to the product such as erythritol, xylitol, maltodextrin, sucralose and or sugar of any kind.
One product that is up for debate is Truvia, a product that claims to be natural but adds a few extra ingredients e.g. erythritol and xylitol. Truvia’s parent company is Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola makes Coca-Cola. That comparison alone should suffice. Plus, Coca Cola produces most if not all the other sodas known to man for every fast food joint in the world so you be the judge. PureVia is made from Pepsi. Look out for that one as well.
Is Truvia healthy?
Well you’re going to have to study the research and be the judge. They claim to be natural but Truvia and PureVia are not. (Truvia is made from Coca Cola and PureVia is made from Pepsi)
Here is an excellent article concerning this issue and gives excellent insight on Stevia as a whole “Is Truvia Healthy?” by food renegade.
Another great article by the same person is a list and breakdown of which sweeteners the author has and which ones are the best to eat.
