Quinoa, is it a grain or not? It can be confusing because it looks like a grain but in fact it is not. It is simply a seed that we treat and cook just like we would a grain. It is actually a relative of spinach, beets and chard. So the part we actually eat is the seed, which we cook like rice, but you can actually eat the leaves.
With it’s quick cooking times and fantastic nutty flavor, it also is a source of complete protein which is rarely found in plant foods, this is because it has the perfect balance of all nine amino acids, essential for human nutrition, which we commonly find in meats making this a great source for vegetarian and vegan diets.
Quinoa also offers a good dose of fiber and iron and can be used as a substitute for all cooking methods such as baking and can be made in to flour to bake with!
